Powder Recipes Two quick methods for taking Nopal powder are to:
  1. (1) Put a tablespoon in any fruit juice, stir and drink.
  2. (2) Or put a tablespoon in some yogurt, mix and drink. or add in protein powder

(1) Smoothie

  1. 1 banana
  2. 1 tablespoon Nopal Powder
  3. 1/4 cup yogurt
  4. 1/2 cup milk

Protein Powder - optional. Blend and drink - a great drink to start your morning! Note: If you take a bit of HOT water first, stir in nopal, then mix in favorite juice

(2) Sue's Pick

  1. 6 ounces chilled, purified water
  2. 2 tsps Nopal Powder, add some mango juice, carrot juice and a sprig of parsley. Stir vigorously or mix in blender and enjoy

(3) Rachele's Choice

  1. 2 ounces purified water
  2. 6 ounces apple juice (preferably organic)
  3. 2 tsps Nopal Cactus Powder. Stir vigorously or mix in blender

(4) Mary's Favorite - Orange Zest

  1. 2 ounces purified water
  2. 6 ounces orange juice
  3. 2 tsps Nopal Cactus Powder. Mix in a blender until smooth

(5) Mike's-Carrot Smoothie

  1. 4 ounces purified water
  2. 4 ounces apple juice (preferably organic)
  3. 1 frozen, ripe banana
  4. 2 tsps Nopal Cactus Powder. Mix in a blender until smooth

(6) John's Protein Power Shake

  1. 2 tsps Nopal cactus Powder
  2. 1 Banana
  3. 4 oz of yogurt - plain
  4. 4 oz skim milk or soy milk. ADD your favorite frozen berries - mix in the blender and ENJOY

Bread & Rolls

Substitute about 1/2 cup of Nopal for 1/2 cup flour in almost any bread recipe and it comes out great! It tastes great and you get all the benefits of eating Nopal. You will need to add some Wheat Gluten to give it some texture.

(7) Nopal Bread

A favorite is a multigrain bread mix. Using a bread maker makes it easy, but baking bread the old-fashioned way is great. Healthy Banana- Nopal Cookies. These are a soft chewy Cookie loaded with flavor.

Ingredients

  1. 3 ripe large bananas or 4 small ones
  2. 2 cups rolled oats (Quaker oats in the round container)
  3. 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
  4. 1/3 cup vegetable oil (Canola is best)
  5. 1/3 cup of Nopal Powder
  6. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

(Sugar is optional - not necessary or add some honey)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Stir in oats, dates, oil, and vanilla. Mix well, and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an un-greased cookie sheet.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly brown.

(8) Date-Nut Bread

  1. 1 cup boiling coffee (I don't like coffee so I just used boiling water)
  2. 1 cup chopped dates
  3. 1 teaspoon soda
  4. Let coffee, soda, and dates soak while mixing:
  5. 1 cup sugar
  6. 1 tablespoon butter
  7. 1 egg
  8. 1 cup of flour
  9. 1/2 cup of Nopal
  10. pinch of salt
  11. 1 cup chopped walnuts
  12. 1 teaspoon vanilla

Add date mixture to batter and mix well. Turn into a greased 4-1/2x8-inch loaf pan or 3 mini-loaves and bake at 300 degrees F until a toothpick comes out clean, about 1-1/2 hours (45 minutes for mini-loaves).

(9) Basic Bread Recipe

  1. Slightly warm
  2. 1/2 cup of Milk
  3. 3/4 cup of Water
  4. add 2 cups of bread flour (white)
  5. 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
  6. 1/2 cup of Nopal Powder
  7. 1 1/2 tea yeast
  8. 2 tablespoons sugar
  9. 1 teaspoon salt
  10. 1 tablespoon olive oil, butter or Margarine
  11. 1 teaspoon Wheat Gluten (not absolutely necessary but helps)

Put all in your machine and push the start button.

(10) Whole wheat with eggs.

This is a heavy bread.. somewhat chewy.. makes great toast.  Take a large measuring cup and put 1 egg in it. add milk to make 1 1/4 cups, slightly warm in the microwave, then put into your bread machine.

  1. add 2 cups of bread flour (white)
  2. 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour
  3. 1/2 cup of Nopal Powder
  4. 1 1/2 tea yeast
  5. 2 tablespoons sugar
  6. 1 teaspoon salt
  7. 1 tablespoon butter
  8. 1 teaspoon Wheat Gluten (not absolutely necessary but helps)

Put all in your machine and push the start button.

(11) Sprouty Bread

  1. 1 cup of soy or wheat bean sprouts
  2. 2 cups of white flour
  3. 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  4. 1 tea salt
  5. 1/3 cup of Toasted Oats. *
  6. 5 Dates, chopped up (use kitchen scissors) **
  7. 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar
  8. 1 1/2 tea of yeast
  9. 1/2 cup milk (Warm a bit)
  10. 1/2 cup of water
  11. 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil (or butter)

Place all ingredients in your bread machine using the white bread cycle. Note.. The bean sprouts contain quite a bit of water that are released as they are mashed up in the kneading. So check the consistency of the dough after a few minutes and make sure its not to soft and sticky.. If it is add a bit more flour.

* to Toast put on a sheet or pan and bake at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes.  ** If you don't have an open package of dates just add one more Tablespoon of Sugar.

(12) Hearty Oak & Nut Bread

  1. 1 1/2 teas Active dry yeast
  2. 2 1/2 cups Bread flour
  3. 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  4. 1 1/2 teas Salt
  5. 1 1/2 teas Wheat Gluten
  6. 1/2 cup oats (the kind in the round package)
  7. 1/2 cup Nopal flower/powder
  8. 1 1/4 cup warm water
  9. 1 Cup Chopped Nuts
  10. 1 Tablespoon Butter

Place in bread machine and push start. Try not to eat it all at once. This is really good with some Orange Marmalade. It also makes excellent French Toast.
